Many international jazz projects do not struggle because of the music itself, but because the practical work required to transform interest into activity on the ground is often underestimated.
In the jazz ecosystem, roles often overlap, which can sometimes create confusion around who does what within a project.
The structure developed through Badass Yogi Productions is intentionally different from a traditional booking or management model.
Many excellent jazz projects reach a stage where they need professional support, local coordination, or production expertise, but not necessarily full representation.
Traditional booking and management models are designed around commission-based relationships. These structures work well when a project already generates enough activity to support ongoing representation.
However, many artists and ensembles find themselves in a different situation:
they are developing internationally
they have occasional touring activity
they are building relationships in new territories
they need operational support, local coordination, or strategic guidance
but they do not necessarily require or benefit from exclusive representation
BYP was developed to address that space by providing flexible, project-based support adapted to the realities of international jazz development. Rather than acting as an agent or manager, BYP provides targeted support adapted to the realities of each project and each stage of development.
A booking agent primarily focuses on:
sourcing performance opportunities
negotiating artistic fees
routing tours
representing projects commercially within a territory
In most cases:
remuneration is commission-based
territorial exclusivity may apply
commissions can apply to all activity within a territory, including opportunities not directly sourced by the agent
The role is fundamentally centered around selling dates.
A manager generally focuses on:

overall coordination of an artist’s activity

supporting communication and coordination once opportunities begin to develop
handling production and operational matters once engagements are confirmed (administration, logistics, local coordination, compliance, touring support, etc.)
BYP is designed for projects that are developing activity in France and Benelux and need local support without entering into a traditional representation agreement.
This may include projects that:
are exploring new territories and need local guidance
already work with an agent or manager but require local operational support
are self-managed and looking for a trusted local partner
need assistance coordinating production, administration, or logistics around confirmed engagements
require a flexible and non-exclusive structure adapted to specific projects or touring periods
BYP can operate alongside existing agents, managers, labels, and other partners, with the objective of supporting the practical development and execution of activity on the territory. The objective is not to replace traditional representation, but to complement it where useful.
